Even if the cutting mechanisms are studied since many years, significant improvements are still possible thanks to the development of rigorous scientific approaches. The understanding of the
failure mechanisms due to cutting on any single cutter is essential to understand the cutting process on any type of machine, but their integration on any complex process is useful to understand
mechanical problems usually encountered in stone sawing. The scientific approach developped by Stone Assistance is based on experimental studies in laboratory coupled with the instrumentation of
sawing machine in quarries. It has already been tested for the development of a new cutting configuration for chain saw machines.
